On Monday, December 5th, one person was killed in an accident in east Fresno at approximately 8:00 AM.
A 1960’s Chevy Nova, driven by a 29-year-old man with a suspended license, sped west out of a gas station on Olive Avenue. The Chevy swerved into the eastbound lanes and slammed into a 2010 Dodge truck west of Peach Avenue.
The Nova’s driver died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Dodge and two children in the vehicle, received minor injuries. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
On Saturday, December 3rd, a crash involving a car hitting a tree in downtown Visalia, happened at approximately 12:30 AM.
The driver, Ozvaldo Mendoza, was traveling in a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am, when he hit a curb and swerved out of control. The Pontiac spun out and crashed into a tree at the corner of Main and Floral streets.
Mendoza and another occupant in the car, Jesus Aguilar, suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
Mendoza was arrested for DUI, as police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
On Tuesday, November 22nd, a pedestrian was in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck, at approximately 6:53 PM, in Fresno.
The pedestrian, in her mid-20’s, was walking across the street at Voorman and Blackstone avenues, and was in the fast lane, when she was hit by a man driving a truck.
She was seriously injured and taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
Reportedly alcohol was not contributing factor in the accident.
On Tuesday, November 22nd, a suspected stolen vehicle ended up crashing behind the Elephant Bar restaurant in Bakersfield.
Officers tried to pull an SUV over at River Run Boulevard. The suspect would not yield to the CHP, and fled the scene. The authorities gave chase to the vehicle.
Speeds reached approximately 70 mph, before the driver of the stolen SUV lost control and crashed behind the restaurant, located at Stockdale Highway and Old River Road.
The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away on foot. He was apprehended not long after.
No injuries have been reported for this accident.
On Sunday, November 27th, Bakersfield police caught a drunk driver involved in a hit-and-run accident, near a DUI checkpoint on Union Avenue.
The crash occurred on Golden State Highway, when the driver of a pickup truck slammed into a motorcycle and then fled the scene. Officers heard the accident and raced to the nearby accident.
The driver of the truck was caught after a short pursuit by police. He was arrested for DUI, failure to yield to police, and felony hit-and-run.
The motorcyclist received major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center.
On Sunday, November 27th, a DUI accident ends in a double fatality in Clovis, at approximately 2:00 AM.
A black Toyota pickup, driven by Larry Garcia, of Clovis, crashed into a white Acura at the intersection of Minnewawa and Barstow avenues, after the truck drove through a red light. The Acura was carrying Keith Smith of Clovis, and Jessica Matthes, of Sacramento.
Smith, the driver of the Acura, was killed instantly in the crash. Matthes suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno. She died in the hospital.
Garcia who was driving under the influence, sustained minor injuries, and was arrested. He was booked for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
On Wednesday, November 2nd, an accident occurred between four cars in Arvin, at about 8:00 AM.
The crash happened along Sunset Boulevard and Comanche Road, and trapped one woman, who was pregnant, in her car until crews could come rescue her.
The woman and two other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Officers said that the wind and the dust that was blowing was to blame for the wreck. They were unsure though how exactly the crash happened, because the vehicles ended up in different directions.
On Tuesday, November 29th, a semi truck hauling two trailers overturned on I-5, at the Grapevine Road exit, south of Bakersfield.
The big rig was carrying 55-gallon drums of some unknown substance. It was traveling north on Interstate 5, when the semi flipped over after a brake fire occurred. Because of the accident some of the drums spilled their contents on the roadway.
A hazmat team was called in and deemed the spill nontoxic enough for Kern County Environmental Health and Caltrans to deal with the cleaning. The Grapevine Rd. exit was closed while crews dealt with the cleanup.
On Tuesday, November 29th, a Fresno man was killed in an accident that happened at the westbound transition of Highway 168 and Highway 180, at approximately 3-3:15 AM.
Jordan Stokes was driving his 2006 Ford Escape on the highway when he drifted off the roadway and lost control of his SUV. He hit the center divide before Olive Avenue, and the vehicle flew through the air across the lanes and over the overpass and crashed below.
The Ford hit a dirt embankment on the south side of the road, coming to rest on the street under the Highway 168 overpass.
Stokes was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from complications.
Officials are investigating the accident, to determine the cause. Fog was ruled to have not been a factor.
On Tuesday, November 29th, a Bakersfield woman was killed as she attempted to cross the street, in Bakersfield in the morning.
The pedestrian, Barbara Ann Reaves, who was 75 years-old, was walking in the crosswalk moving east across Brundage Lane when the stop light turned green at the intersection.
A semi truck that was stopped on Mt. Vernon Avenue, proceeded to drive through the street after the light change. He hit and killed Reaves while she was still crossing the road.
The truck driver has reported that he did not see Reaves in the road.
